COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Advice

Information for students, prospective students, staff and the community on the University's response to COVID-19.

 

 

While we understand that this is anxious time, please be reassured that the University is following guidance from Health Protection Scotland and the Scottish and UK governments, and that the campus is open.

This academic year we are offering a mix of on-campus and online activity (commonly referred to as blended delivery). Library, catering, retail and other services are all operational.

When they are not delivering face to face teaching or services, staff are generally working from home, and contactable by email. See our updates for the current status. The You can do IT at home page contains  information and links to the key resources that students and staff may require to work remotely. 

We are following well-established procedures which allow us to prepare for and respond to any scenario in the optimum way. We are committed to supporting our communities in tackling the spread of the virus. We have been planning for this academic year and beyond through our COVID-19 Business Continuity Group. Our plans allow for flexibility, and are focused firmly on ensuring the quality of the student experience and the wellbeing of staff and students.

The QMU COVID inbox and other resources

We have set up a dedicated email address to answer the COVID-related questions of our students and their families: CovidHelp@qmu.ac.uk. If your question is welfare related, our Student Services team are also here to help and can offer face to face appointments if appropriate (0131 474 0000, and ask for Student Services when prompted). If you have a medical question, you can call NHS Inform on 0800 028 2816, or use the NHS web chat tool.

The Scottish Government has created a website with specific guidance for students.

SAAS has created a webpage with specific guidance for students in halls of residence.

Asymptomatic student testing

We are offering our students a free COVID testing service before the winter break.

While COVID-19 has brought major disruption worldwide, QMU’s role in the world remains unchanged. With our focus on addressing the issues facing society through education and research, and our strong social justice ethos, we look forward to playing our part as society re-adjusts and re-calibrates beyond the pandemic.
