Marjory was awarded a PhD by the University of Exeter Business School for research on Highland Games in Scotland where the volunteer organisers and community cultural events associated with event tourism were key areas. Prior to entering academia Marjory worked in the Scottish tourism sector and spent some years in various overseas destinations and on a cruise ship when employed by an international tourism organisation.

Current teaching includes modules from events, tourism and hospitality. Main research interests are associated agritourism, community cultural events and the implications for event tourism. Further research interests are related to event travel patterns, particularly friends and relatives returning to attend community events.
